Kimberly Spears

Kim SpearsKimberly Spears is a talented, attractive and personable singer/songwriter who is currently based in Gibbons, Alberta.  “Music has always been a part of my life.  I’ve been performing for longer than I can remember and feel most at home when I’m on the stage.  When I’m singing my songs, I feel as though I’m doing what I’m meant to do, and I’m being exactly who I am.”

Born in Red Deer, AB, Kimberly moved at age 8 and was raised in rural Manitoba.  This is when she had her first piano lessons, soon followed by guitar, voice and dance (tap, jazz and ballet).  It wasn’t long before Kimberly’s involvement in music and dance led her to become active in theatrical productions.

Kimberly’s intense involvement in music throughout elementary, junior high and high school resulted in her acceptance into a heavily integrated arts school for her grade 12 year.  She moved to Victoria, B.C., where she remained for 2 years, studying voice with Alexandra Browning-Moore, Dean of Music, University of Victoria.  Upon completion of high school, Kimberly remained in Victoria where she began the first of a 4 year Bachelor of Music curriculum.  After her first year, Kimberly transferred to one of Canada's premier music universities, Brandon University, Brandon, M.B., where she received numerous scholarships, top honor grades, and an invitation into the Applied Performance Program.  In 1997, Kimberly graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree, majoring in voice.  Although teaching and furthering her studies to a Masters degree were appealing options, Kimberly’s desire for performing, writing, and recording her own music made choosing her career path easy.  In the fall of ’97, she packed her bags and moved to Winnipeg.

Soon after her move, Kimberly became active in many aspects of the Winnipeg music community.  She was heavily involved in performing with her rock band Echo Beat, which doubled as a cover band on the club circuit and as her back up band on the original circuit.  She also kept busy as a session singer, working on her own projects and with numerous other recording artists.  In October ’97 Kimberly recorded a session at Sunshine Records in Winnipeg, where she completed a 2 song CD single.  These 2 singles attracted radio, media, and label interest and were the beginning of a sequence of events still in motion today.  She then made a trip to Nashville, which resulted in the completion of 2 new singles.  The first of these “Not With My Heart You Don’t”, was released on Hillcrest Records and received extensive air play, cracking the top 100 Canadian Country Charts and peaking at #64.  The second “You Say It’s Nothing”, was written by Kimberly and appears on her debut full length CD Don’t Hesitate

In December 1999, Kimberly signed a personal management agreement with Paul Mascioli of Mascioli Entertainment Corp., Orlando, Florida.  The first order of business was for Kimberly to move to Orlando, where she immediately began performing at the resort town of The Villages, FL.  While south of the border, Kimberly also had the opportunity to perform at Orlando’s Sea World, Universal Studios, Disney World, as well as resorts in Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.  Highlights for Kimberly are opening for Three Dog Night (Jeremiah Was A Bullfrog) in Jamaica, as well as Clarence Carter (Strokin’) in Tunica, Mississippi.  In April of 2000, Kimberly again traveled to Nashville where she met with renowned record producer Jerry Crutchfield.  Mr. Crutchfield and Kimberly completed a 10 song development CD and Kimberly co wrote with a number of writers from Mr. Crutchfields publishing company.  Kimberly performed a well received artist showcase at Nashville’s Douglas Corner prior to her return to Canada.

Kimberly’s return to Canada inspired her to complete a Bachelor of Education degree at Red Deer College, Red Deer, AB, while teaching voice lessons at Red Deer College, followed by a move to the Edmonton, AB. area.  It is here that Kimberly has taken the time to reflect and write the material, in a style unique to only herself, for her follow up CD to her debut record.  Recorded at Edmonton’s Homestead Recorders with legendary Canadian musical icon, and mega multi awarding winning producer Barry Allen, Kimberly is currently promoting her new album Losing A Layer performing at various local attractions.

The Manitoba Country Music Association nominated Kimberly in three categories for their 1999 Awards;  Female Vocalist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and the Tony Sianchuk Award (for rising star).

In October 2008 Kimberly was forwarded to the semi-finals of the UK Songwriting competition for her song This Could Be It, and commended for her song Sabotage.

Kimberly’s intense drive, ambition and emotion, coupled with her raw talent and keen business skills, have put Kimberly on an unstoppable path to success.

Quotes and Testimonials:

CD Quotes:

“You nailed it! Nice material and well put together.”  Paul Mascioli, Mascioli Entertainment Corporation, Orlando, Florida (in regards to my new Disc)

“Finally had time to listen to Kim Spears.  She's great!  Songs are cool, performances are top notch, and disc SOUNDS fantastic.Hope good things happen there.  I can't imagine why not.  Please give me an update sometime, love to be in the loop.”  Harry Stinson, Nashville TN (Producer)

“I'm really blown away by this project. First of all the songs and lyrics are really really good and you sing amazing and the session is easily the best session I've ever recorded.  It’s just everything fell into place and that doesn't happen very often believe me. The sonics of all the cuts work so amazing well, there is no summing up of frequencies anywhere and yet it sounds so big and full.  I'm really proud of the way it all sounds.  And the guys’ playing what can I say, I knew it would be a good mix but I'm absolutely blown away by what we got!”  Barry Allen, Homestead Recorders, Edmonton, AB

Press Quotes

“Don't hate her because she's beautiful.  Or talented.  Or bearably sweet.  By the same token, you get the impression from Kim Spears, the singer-songwriter with Trisha Yearwood's voice and Faith Hill's looks, that accepting compliments is equally uncomfortable for the Red Deer Alta., native.  Prior to ritualistic week-night songwriting session, Spears shares the news that her song Not With My Heart You Don't made its chart debut earlier this week.  Fans from as far away as Australia have been writing the as-yet-unsigned crooner. Behind those wide eyes and blushing cheeks is a sharp mind, ever focused on the task at hand.  The formally trained singer and guitar/piano player is focused on the business.  Spears, an avid song scribe, has worked with two of the city's most prominent writer-producers, among others.”

“Manitoba transplant, Kimberly Spears, who now resides in Orlando, Florida, has been very busy furthering her career since meeting manager Paul Mascioli at 1999's Country Music Week in Ottawa, Canada.  Spears signed a management agreement with Mascioli in December and has just penned a production agreement with well known producer, Jerry Crutchfield. The trio met recently in Nashville and spent three days in the studio in the first stages of recording a demo tape.  Once completed, these recordings will be used to shop Spears' talents to various Nashville labels.  In addition to a steady diet of songwriting in both Orlando and Nashville, Kimberly also performs in a production show five nights a week at a resort in The Villages, Florida near Orlando.”  Academy of Country Music

“No musical group would be complete without the influences of a female vocalist, which is why the voice of Kimberly Spears completes the circle.  This Canadian singer writes, performs, records and promotes all of her own music.  She recorded a two-song CD for Sunshine records in Winnipeg, then recorded more singles in Nashville.  Spears is currently promoting her debut CD "Don’t Hesitate", which was released in Canada on her newly established record label Sweet Heart Records.  She has also signed a distribution agreement with St. Clair Entertainment, Inc.”  The Villages Daily Sun Lifestyles
