River Rats Announce July 1 Festival
As Restrictions Ease River Rats Are Eager to Bring Music Back to Summer
ATHABASCA, ALTA. - Today, the Magnificent River Rats Festival Society in Athabasca, Alberta is attempting to pull off the near-impossible by organizing a one-day festival in a month.
Historically, the festival is a two-day music-filled event starting June 30 and culminating July 1 with fireworks over the scenic Athabasca River. In what should have been the festival’s 24th year the pandemic hit and the world ground to a halt. It truly felt like the day the music died.
Now, with vaccination rates on the rise – notably that the Athabasca region is above the provincial average – the Magnificent River Rats Festival Society executive has decided to jump in with both feet and bring the party to Canada Day.
Including Dirt Road Angels, Martin Kerr, the Richard Woodman Band, Brianna Lizotte, popular local rockers Delirium and children’s entertainers Flying Bob’s Circus and Hawkey Studios, along with the majestic backdrop of the mighty river and in proximity to the Athabasca Farmers’ Market means this one-day event will be a spectacular celebration of the Alberta spirit and a welcome re-entry into a world without COVID-19 restrictions.
Working with Alberta Health Services, and expecting Stage 3 of Alberta’s Open for Summer Plan to be in place, there will be a limit of 150 wristbands sold. Hopefully restrictions will lift further and we will be able to open up sales even more.
